"I think teens push boundaries because their lives are so confusing; they want to know what will hold fast. The only way to find out is to push."
-Kathleen Bauer

Connecting with your teen can be tough, and confusing. We can help you and your child reconnect and find your way back to each other.

As they grow, children and adolescents develop social skills and emotional intelligence. This awareness helps them to develop into healthy, happy, and successful individuals. But some children have trouble processing their emotions and this often leads to behavior that negatively impacts their school life, home life, and overall well-being. When these issues are not resolved as children, they persist through their teens years and into adulthood. This can be incredibly confusing for parents and teens to navigate together. Often times we hear that any new parenting techniques used at home seem to further drive this disconnection.

Therapy offers teens a safe space to work through their thoughts and emotions. With the help of a specialized therapist, teens can resolve problems, modify behaviors, and make positive and lasting changes. Our clinicians use multiple forms of therapy when working with teens. Often times sessions will consist of play therapy, talk therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. By using an eclectic and relational approach the clinician can work within a style that fits a particular client, which increases effectiveness of the overall therapy.

The following are some of the events and scenarios that can impact a child’s mental health and well-being:

  • The death of a loved one

  • Bullying

  • Physical or sexual abuse

  • Domestic violence

  • Moving or attending a new school

  • Divorce

  • Social anxiety

  • Performance Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Relationship breakup

  • Eating Disorders

  • Learning Disabilities

  • ADHD

  • Academic Struggles

Therapy is not a quick fix to any behavioral or emotional issue. It is instead a thoughtful and comprehensive process that provides teens with insights and skills so that they may feel in control, connected, less powerless, and more confident. This, in essence, is how children develop into happy, healthy, and successful adults.
