Hello!
My name is Josh.
I'm a therapist based in Buford, Georgia, and I work primarily with children and teens, using Child Centered Play Therapy to help them work through the challenges they're facing. I hold a BS in Psychology with a minor in Leadership Studies from Kennesaw State University and a Master's in Professional Advancement from Mercer University.
My focus areas include play therapy, co-parenting and family transitions, and helping families navigate divorce. I especially enjoy working with clients who are open minded and ready to put in the work to reach their goals.
A first session with me is usually about building rapport and gathering some background so I can understand where you're coming from. From there, I take things slow, getting to know my younger clients through play. As they play, I ask simple questions and use what I observe to understand and work through the problem we're focused on solving together.
One question I get often is, "What is play therapy?" I explain it as using the natural, therapeutic power of play to help kids prevent or work through emotional and social struggles so they can keep growing and developing in a healthy way.
People often come to me when they're having a hard time solving a problem on their own, whether that's a child struggling with big emotions or a family working through the effects of divorce.
If you're nervous about starting therapy, my advice is simple: take it slow, get to know your therapist first, and if it feels like a good fit, keep going. If it doesn't, don't be afraid to try someone else until you find the right match.
I see clients both in person and via telehealth throughout Georgia, and I accept self-pay.
