Hello!

My name is Lauryn.

I am an intern-level therapist currently pursuing a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Mercer University. As an intern, I work with clients under the supervision of Allison O’Brien, LMFT. My approach to therapy is very explorative and discovery-based. I believe that experiences shape us across our lifetimes, even those that seem unimportant at first glance. In line with this, I prioritize the exploration of patterns in clients’ families of origin, friend groups, and other social connections, as well as the potential influences of other external factors on my clients’ current circumstances and functioning. It is important to me that my clients feel safe and able to be fully themselves in session, and it is my goal that our work together empowers them to carry this sense of safety and self-acceptance into their everyday lives. I primarily operate from the therapeutic modalities of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for individuals and the Gottman Method for couples therapy.

While I am excited to work with clients with a wide array of needs and life stages, I am passionate about supporting individuals, couples and families navigating life transitions, such as the transition to college, moving geographical locations, transitioning into or out of romantic or familial relationships, adjusting to older children’s needs, the launching of children, etc.

Another life transition that I am particularly passionate about is the perinatal period. The term “perinatal” refers to the weeks and months immediately preceding and following pregnancy and/or birth. This time can be immensely exciting for families! However, it can also be a time riddled with complex emotions, such as grief and anxiety, as individuals, couples, and families process a variety of factors, such as difficulties around conception, preparation for labor and delivery, the responsibilities associated with caring for a new baby, the impact of pregnancy and new parenthood on a couple’s relationship, postpartum anxiety and/or depression, or the loss of a pregnancy or infant. I would love to come alongside clients and offer support wherever they may find themselves in this complex season of life. Many experiences related to pregnancy and birth are very common, and I aim to help clients feel seen, understood, and not alone in their journey.

In addition to working with perinatal clients and clients traversing life transitions, I am also excited to work with clients navigating OCD and related anxiety disorders.

When I am not seeing clients, you can find me playing volleyball, relaxing in my hammock at a nearby park, or singing and writing music! Similar to what drew me to become a therapist, I truly enjoy exploring my complex human emotions and experiences and translating them into songs.
