Hello!

My name is Kayla.

I'm an Associate Professional Counselor licensed in Georgia, and I work with adults, teens, children, and couples navigating anxiety, stress, relationship and attachment struggles, and trauma.

When we hear that someone is struggling, one of our first instincts is often to try to fix it. I know that was certainly true for me. My instinct was to find the quickest solution possible so I could take away the other person's pain. During some of the most difficult periods of my own life, though, I realized that what helped me most wasn't advice or a checklist of fixes. It was having a therapist who helped me feel truly seen and heard. She didn't try to take my pain away. Instead, she metaphorically put her arm around me and sat with me through those difficult moments.

That experience has deeply shaped how I show up as a therapist. I want to be someone who can sit with you in your pain without immediately trying to fix it. There is absolutely a time for problem-solving, strategies, and solutions, and I also believe that healing can begin simply by feeling seen, heard, and understood. My goal is to create a space where you don't have to have everything figured out. You can show up as you are and know you don't have to navigate it alone.

I work especially well with clients who feel stuck: people who have been struggling with something for a while and haven't found relief, leaving them feeling hopeless or caught in a loop. This is where I step in to validate that struggle, help build self-compassion, and develop a plan so we can begin to heal together.

Going to therapy can feel scary, so my first priority in our first session is helping you feel emotionally regulated. My office has soft lighting and fidgets you're welcome to use as you settle in at your own pace. We'll spend that time getting to know each other and answering any questions you have. Everyone opens up at their own pace, and my goal is for that first session to feel like a conversation, not an interview, so you can walk away feeling seen.

In our work together, we'll explore the patterns that were formed, process difficult seasons, and build coping skills that help you reconnect with your authentic self. For teens especially, I often use sandtray or art therapy techniques, since it can be hard to trust a new therapist or put feelings into words. Asking a teen to paint or build their world gives me a window into what they're carrying, and often helps them process something they hadn't realized was there.

A phrase that has stuck with me in this work: the moment you feel seen by yourself and others is often the moment real change begins. People tend to come to me when they're having a hard time and need to feel seen, and I consider it an honor to be trusted with their stories.

A bit more about me: Outside of the office, you'll usually find me playing video games with my husband, baking, or taking walks in nature. And yes, I know I look young for this work; it comes up more than you'd think.
