Hello!
My name is Kathryn.
You don't have to have it all figured out to start.
If you've been carrying something heavy, past trauma, emotional pain, the weight of experiences you've never fully unpacked, you're in the right place. I'm Kathryn Miller, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and trauma therapist based in Buford, GA. I work with adults who are ready to go deeper than coping strategies and start doing real, lasting work.
I specialize in trauma, abuse, and emotional distress, with advanced training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), one of the most well-researched approaches available for trauma healing. EMDR works where talk therapy alone sometimes can't: at the level of the nervous system, shifting negative core beliefs and releasing what the body has been holding, sometimes for years. I also draw from IFS (Internal Family Systems), somatic therapy, psychodynamic therapy, DBT, and mindfulness, and I tailor every session to what you actually need.
Who I work with:
Many of my clients have been in therapy before. They've learned the coping skills. Now they want real insight and meaningful change. If that's you, we'll work together to move beneath the surface, understanding what's driving the pain, not just managing it. I also have a particular specialty in supporting individuals navigating religious transitions, including those leaving high-demand or fundamental religions. This is work I understand both professionally and personally, and it's work I consider a privilege.
What to expect:
Your first session isn't an intake form. It's a conversation. Sessions two and three are about building trust, exploring your history, and getting clear on what you most want to heal or change. Most clients leave those first few meetings with a real sense of direction.
My approach is warm and collaborative, and I'm not afraid to be direct when that's what you need. A little humor goes a long way too. If we're not laughing at some point, something's off.
I hold a Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia and have trained in EMDR. I see clients in person in Buford, GA and via telehealth across Georgia.
Currently accepting new clients. Reach out by email to schedule a free consultation call. I'd love to connect.
A little about me outside the office: Dr. Pepper on the porch, scammer docuseries, horror movies, romance novels, and an office full of plants that keep multiplying. These days I'm also relearning piano and picking up singing for the first time in my 30s, proof that it's never too late to try something new! I'm someone who thrives in small groups over big crowds, and I bring that same preference for depth over surface-level connection into my work. Being a therapist has given my life real purpose, and I don't take lightly the opportunity to do this work with you.
