Hello!
My name is Charlie.
I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and co-owner of Cardinal Counseling Group, based in Buford, Georgia. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Mercer University, and I'm a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), National Certified Counselor (NCC), and Certified Brainspotting practitioner. I've also trained in Relational Life Therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels 1 & 2), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Trust-Based Relational Intervention, Systematic Affair Recovery Therapy, and I'm a Prepare/Enrich facilitator.
I work primarily with couples, couples in crisis, men, individuals with disabilities, caregivers, and veterans and active-duty service members. My approach draws on Relational Life Therapy, the Gottman Method, and Brainspotting.
My own life has shaped how I show up for clients in a few key ways: I was born with one arm and have spent my life adapting and navigating a world built for two-handed people. I've also lived the experience of foster care and adoption, and I've navigated my own divorce and building a blended family. Those experiences taught me a lot about resilience, and about what it actually takes to change destructive patterns instead of just surviving them.
Are you tired of repeating the same relationship patterns you grew up with? As a licensed marriage counselor specializing in Relational Life Therapy, I help couples move past inherited family armor and build fierce, authentic intimacy. My work is about helping you step out of generational survival mode and become your family's cycle breaker.
People often come to me when they're tired, nearly done, and on the verge of complete hopelessness. If you're nervous about starting therapy, here's what I want you to know: I believe in you, and I'll treat you and the things important to you with a loving firmness so you can grow, heal, and learn.
Sessions one through three are about setting treatment goals and getting to know each other. That might happen in the office, online, or even out on the lake. I show up wherever you need me to, and I'll talk honestly about how I work while I listen to understand your world. We're focused on understanding each other. You'll learn how I work, and I'll do my best to learn your world.
A phrase that's stuck with me in this work is from Terry Real: "The wounded boy grows up to become a wounding man, inflicting upon those he loves the very distress he has never mastered."
I work especially well with couples in crisis, individuals with disabilities, and men who are open to the possibility of change. If a client described a session with me to a friend, I think they'd say I'm attuned to them and their feelings in a way they didn't know they showed the world, that my approach is loving and firm, that what you see is what you get, and that I'm always five minutes late.
Something people are often surprised to learn about me: I own CCG. Outside of work, I reset through striper fishing, making bass lures, stained glass art, hardscaping, and picking up new hobbies whenever one catches my interest.
I see clients both in person and via telehealth throughout Georgia. Self-pay rates are $175 for 60-minute sessions and $225 for 90-minute sessions; call for pricing on 1–2 day intensives, which I also offer for couples.
